Gerrit Thomas Rietveld was a
young rationalist architect in his thirties, active and committed, when he
joined the De Stijl movement in 1918.
The movement tended to
translate and compose in ideology the theme of dynamic breakdown and
decomposition that had already been expressed in cubist painting.
When Cassina wished to have
some of Rietveld's work in our historical catalogue, the Rietveld family lent
it's support and, in 1972, Cassina was granted exclusive worldwide rights to
produce and market furniture and other objects designed by G.T.Rietveld.
